SAND AND STONE

A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the journey, they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, he wrote in the sand: Today my best friend slapped me in the face.

            They kept on walking, until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but his friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: Today my best friend saved my life.

            The friend, who had slapped and saved his best friend, asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand, and now, you write on a stone, why?"

            The other friend replied: "When someone hurts us, we should write it down in sand, where the winds of forgiveness can erase it away, but when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it. Learn to write your hurts in the sand and to carve your blessings in stone.

THE SCIENTIST AND GOD

A scientist approaches God, and says to Him, "Look, God, we don't need you anymore.  Nowadays, we can do all sorts of things that used to be considered miraculous.  We can transplant organs, giving new life to a dying man, we can cure almost any disease, and we can even clone animals.  It won't be long, and we'll be able to clone humans, too.  So, I'm sorry, but you are just outdated".

     God listens patiently to the scientist and says, "I can see that you believe you don't need me, and I understand.  However, I love you, and I don't want to see you make a big mistake, so why don't we make sure?  I say we should have a man-making contest, just to be sure."

     The scientist replies, "I'll take that challenge". 

    So, God says, "Ok, let's do it the way I did it in the old days, with Adam and Eve".  The scientists says, "No problem", and reaches down to scoop up a handful of dirt.

     "Whoa, hold on there a minute", God says.  "You get your OWN dirt".

Believing The Impossible

Every great achievement was once impossible until someone set a goal to make it a reality.

Lewis Carroll's famous masterpiece Through the Looking Glass contains a story that exemplifies the need to dream the impossible dream. There is a conversation between Alice and the queen, which goes like this:

"I can't believe that!" said Alice.

"Can't you?" the queen said in a pitying tone. "Try again, draw a long breath, and shut your eyes."

Alice laughed. "There's no use trying," she said. "One can't believe impossible things."

"I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

When you dare to dream, many marvels can be accomplished. The trouble is, most people never start dreaming their impossible dream.

Thunderbolt Fiber Optics Cable

The future of large data transfers seems bright, although there still few devices that supports the new Apple 10Gbps Thunderbolt connection. Intel has just unvieled a new Thunderbolt canle that uses fiber optics instead of copper cable wires, this will enable faster connectivity over great distances.

AS explained by Intel spokesperson Dave Salvator:

“Copper cables provide adequate data transfer for use over short distances of up to six meters (about 20 feet), but optical cables will be good for data transfers over longer distances of tens of meters”

From Candles to Soap

In 1879, Procter and Gamble's best seller was candles. But the company was in trouble. Thomas Edison had invented the light bulb, and it looked as if candles would become obsolete. Their fears became reality when the market for candles plummeted since they were now sold only forspecial occasions.

The outlook appeared to be bleak for Procter and Gamble. However, at this time, it seemed that destiny played a dramatic part in pulling the struggling company from the clutches of bankruptcy. A forgetful employee at a small factory in Cincinnati forgot to turn off his machine when he went to lunch. The result? A frothing mass of lather filled with air bubbles. He almost threw the stuff away but instead decided to make it into soap. The soap floated. Thus, Ivory soap was born and became the mainstay of the Procter and Gamble Company.

Why was soap that floats such a hot item at that time? In Cincinnati, during that period, some people bathed in the Ohio River. Floating soap would never sink and consequently never got lost. So, Ivory soap became a best seller in Ohio and eventually across the country also.

Like Procter and Gamble, never give up when things go wrong or when seemingly unsurmountable problems arise.

Lesson from Mad Hatter

To accomplishing great things in your life one must cease to dwell on the negative things in your past. Carefully assess your present strengths, successes, and achievements. Dwell on those positive events in your life, and quit limiting your potential by constantly thinking about what you have done poorly. Alice and the Mad Hatter in Wonderland had a conversation that illustrates this concept:

Alice: Where I come from, people study what they are not good at in order to be able to do what they are good at.

Mad Hatter: We only go around in circles in Wonderland, but we always end up where we started. Would you mind explaining yourself?

Alice: Well, grown-ups tell us to find out what we did wrong, and never do it again

Mad Hatter: That's odd! It seems to me that in order to find out about something, you have to study it. And when you study it, you should become better at it. Why should you want to become better at something and then never do it again? But please continue.

Alice: Nobody ever tells us to study the right things we do. We're only supposed to learn from the wrong things. But we are permitted to study the right things other people do. And sometimes we're even told to copy them.

Mad Hatter: That's cheating!

Alice: You're quite right, Mr. Hatter. I do live in a topsy-turvy world. It seems like I have to do something wrong first, in order to learn from what not to do. And then, by not doing what I'm not supposed to do, perhaps I'll be right. But I'd rather be right the first time, wouldn't you?

Jones defeats Rampage: Who's next?

I'm a big fan of MMA, the much waited and highly hype fight between Jones and Jackson ended with JONES winning via submission. The guy was awesome, in such a young age, there's no stopping him. I wonder who's next.. Rashad Evans? You better train hard for this guy.

Here's a round by round analysis of the fight

Round 1. Jackson stares right at Jones during instructions, while Jones just looks down. Jones comes out with one hand on the ground and then he lunges forward into a clinch. Jones throws some knees to the legs and body. Jones grabs Jackson's neck and looks for a guillotine choke but Jackson gets out. Jones throws a big elbow from close distance. Jones throws some foot stomps and looks for a trip takedown unsuccessfully. They break from the clinch two minutes in. Jones throws a high kick that Jackson defends. Jones clinches and then throws Jackson off. Jackson throws a couple looping punches that miss by a wide margin. Jones throws some heavy leg kicks and mixes in head kick attempts as well. Jones clinches again. Jackson throws a few uppercuts from close distance and Jones lands a spinning back elbow. Jones misses a wheel kick and big elbow. Jackson lunges in with big overhand punches at the close of the round but Jones nonchalantly moves out of the way. 10-9 Jones.

Round 2. Jones opens with a head kick and leg kick. Jackson charges forward with punches and they clinch again. Jones misses a spinning elbow and looks for a takedown that is defended. Jones throws a pair of side kicks to the leg. Jones lands a nice straight punch to the head. Jackson lands a hook from close enough range but doesn't follow through. They clinch again with Jones throwing knees before a separation. Jones throws a few leg kicks and baks away when Jackson moves in with punches. Jones is doing so many things and Jackson just throws the same punch combinations over and over again. That doesn't mean Jackson can't connect with a power punch but it's like one guy is playing chess and the other is playing checkers. Jones lands a few nice straight right punches and they clinch again. Jones pulls guard and looks for a triangle choke as the round comes to a close. 10-9 Jones.

Round 3. Jackson throws a leg kick at the start of the round and Jones grabs his neck. Jackson gets out of trouble. Jackson lands a couple more leg kicks. Jones keeps switching his stance from orthodox to southpaw. Jones shoots and takes Jackson down. Jones quickly takes side control and throws a couple elbows. Jones then mounts Jackson. Jones drops down punches and elbows with three minutes still left in the round. Jackson powers out back to his feet. Jackson is cut. Jones throws a few leg kicks. Jackson lunges with a couple power punches that miss. Jones lands a couple straight punches and a side kick to the knee. Jackson charges forward with big overhands and Jones just calmly moves out of the way. Jones throws a flying knee but Jackson blocks it. Jones lands a big straight punch that moves Jackson back. Jones goes for a takedown at the end of the round. The end of the round signals and Jones lifts Jackson up and then drops him back down. 10-9 Jones.

Round 4. Jones lands a few jabs and a hook. Jackson backs up as if he's hurt and Jones throws a big kick to the head that misses. I think Jackson was playing possum there. Jones takes Jackson down and throws a knee to the body. Jones takes Jackson's back and locks in a rear naked choke. Jackson taps out.

Here's some of the best laptop brands out there that's worth your money

Acer: Though the features and innovation are not high here, Acer offers good value for money, thanks to its low pricing strategy. Performance is just average but satisfactory for the price you pay. One of the best laptop brands for college students.

Apple: Many people's favorite laptop brand since it offers great performance and great aesthetics. Can be a bit on the pricey side, but the advanced features are totally worth it.

ASUS: One of the most steadily improving brands that is making the big boys look over their shoulders. The transition from making netbooks to making notebooks is one that ASUS has handled very well indeed.

Dell: Definitely one of the best laptop brands around. Dell offers a lot of choices and its versatility is commendable. Designs need some work though, but this is an aspect that they are constantly striving to improve.

Fujitsu: Not one of the most well-known brands around, and they are more efficient at building tablets instead. Buy a Fujitsu laptop only if you are getting a really attractive deal for the machine.

Gateway: This is a subset brand of Acer and no one is really sure why they are still around. Their features and performance levels are the same as that of Acer, and their USP is value for money as well.

HP: This brand offers some great models and some impressive designs as well, but for some reason people are not very happy with their machines. This could be due to a lack of proper tech support and pretty unimpressive after sales support.

Lenovo: This is one of the best laptop brands around today, and the last year was a very good one indeed. Some stylish new machines have been developed by them, and they are going through a complete revival of their fortunes at the moment.

Samsung: In recent years, Samsung seems to have lost interest in their laptop division. Some new machines that are lined up for release this year seem promising, but the jury is still out.

Sony: Sony's VAIO series are some of the best laptop brands for gaming, and they offer very good performance levels, designs and customer satisfaction. These are great machines to buy and you will not regret your decision one bit.

Toshiba: Another lumbering giant, Toshiba offers good features but performance levels are disappointing. They need to take some impressive steps pretty soon before they are rendered obsolete.

Right now, I do have a Samsung Laptop, and so far I haven't encounter any issues yet.

Since it's almost Valentines, I've been into reading articles related to love.
And I just read an article about different types of kisses.

Here it goes.
Air Kiss - the act of touching cheek-to-cheek and kissing the air. May be accompanied by the onomatopoeic word 'Mwah'.
Eskimo Kisses - where two people rub their noses together.
French Kiss - a kiss involving the use of tongue, known as the 'baiser amoureux', or 'love kiss' or 'baiser avec la langue', 'kiss with the tongue'.
Woodpecker Kiss - more commonly known as a 'peck', a quick, in a hurry kiss.
Written Kiss - using 'x' in writing or typing to denote a kiss, eg, 'xxx' at the end of an email, sometimes added to written 'hugs', 'ooo'.
Virtual kiss - Used in some online chatrooms, a virtual kiss is given with this symbol :-*
Hershey's Kisses - bite-sized pieces of chocolate, though this is not a kiss but this could be given on Valentines Day.

Well, I do love watching movies and I just came across a list of Top 2011 Action Movies and I can't wait till to see them on the big screen.


Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

The famous pirate movie franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean is coming out with another addition, "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides". This new addition will be released on the 20th of may 2011. It was previously supposed to be named the fountain of youth.

In this movie, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley won’t be appearing. The story is mainly about the fountain of youth and the journey towards finding it. Jack Sparrow and Barbossa finds out that Blackbeard and his daughter are also after the magical fountain.

Thor

With a huge list of superhero movies going to be released this year, Thor is one of the most awaited one, but surely after the Avengers and Captain America. Thor will be one of the superheroes in the movie "The Avengers", which is scheduled to release next year.

Thor is a story about a powerful and arrogant warrior who was unknowingly responsible for dark forces to enter into their kingdom and cause destruction. With an exciting trailer, we sure believe that this movie will be one of the best. Thor will be launched on the last week of April.

Transformers: The Dark Of The Moon

The transformer series is something that the world is not going to forget in a long time! It is like one of the best visually appealing movies complemented with a great story line. Transformers 3 will not be featuring Megan Fox as she had publicly insulted Michael Bay, which ended up with her getting fired. This movie will be released on the first week of July.

The Dark of the moon trailer just urges your anxiety to another level. The autobots on earth finds out about the Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the moon and so does the Decepticons. These two powerful groups might clash and end up in a final battle.

Fast Five

Fast five is the 5 part of the famous The Fast and The Furious franchise. The previous one didn’t go as well as expected but this movie is expected to make up for it. Fast Five consist of a huge star cast - Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, etc. With names like those, tickets will sell like hot pancakes.

Dominic and his crew once again end up in the wrong side of the law. A relentless federal agent makes his life difficult and is pressured from a ruthless drug lord. Fast Five is expected to release on the last week of April.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

The first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows went on to be a great hit with strong performance, great story and amazing visuals. Director David Yates wants the last part of the Harry Potter series to end with a bang. The second part of the Deathly Hallow will be released on the 15th of July 2011.

Harry, Hermione and Ron go in search of the final horcrux at Hogwarts to finally end the Dark Lords life. But it is obviously not going to be easy. The final battle will be really fun to see.

Captain America: The First Avenger

Chris Evans has acted in a bunch of action movies and is surely the best pick for Captain America. Set to launch in the last week of July, Captain America is another superhero movie which is lined up for 2011 launch. Captain America will also appear in the 2012 movie "The Avengers".

Steve Rogers was considered unfit to serve the military. So, he volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America. He was injected with a serum that enhances his human abilities to a great level.

Green Lantern

Green Lantern is another superhero movie which will impress many people. Green Lantern shows us a whole new side to the superhero arena. Unlike DCs other superhero movies, i.e fighting bad people to protect people, the green lantern shows how this person creates peace within the universe.

Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) is a test pilot who was chosen to receive a mystical green ring that bestows him with universal powers. He is allowed into an intergalactic squadron where peace within the galaxy is maintained. The Green Lantern is expected to release in the 3rd week of June.

Sherlock Holmes 2

The first Sherlock Holmes movies was unexpectedly an awesome movie. It shocked its audience with its strong cast performance, brilliant visuals, great story and screen play. Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law make a great team together.

The second movie is about Sherlock and Watson joining forces to defeat their greatest enemy Professor Moriarty. It would have been fun to see Brad Pitt as Moriarty, but Jared Harris is a great villain (coming from a Fringe Fan). The second Sherlock movie is to be released on the 16th December 2011.

Sucker Punch

From the creators of Sucker Punch and 300, comes this weirdly cool action movie, the Sucker Punch, starring Emily Browning, Jon Hamm and Vanessa Hudgens. This movie is an action filled visually appealing girl power enhanced packed thriller from Warner Brothers.

A young girl has brutally institutionalized by her stepfather where she finds only pain, suffering and sorrow. She envisions a strategy in her mind, reaches an alternative reality where she has superhuman strength and is on a quest to find her way out of the institution.

I am Number Four

From the directors of Eagle Eye and Disturbia, comes this teenage science fiction movie I Am Number Four. This has a similar story to the smallville series where alien kids have been sent to earth after their planet has been destroyed.

Can't wait for Transformers, Pirates of Caribbean and Harry Potter, they're on top of my list.
Also saw Thor and Green Lantern's trailers, and I must say, it's must see films, I guess all of them.
Hollywood keep them coming..... =D

Internet Addiction

Internet addiction is now a "Clinical Disorder".

Obsessive internet use is a public health problem which is so serious that time has come that it should be officially recognised as a clinical disorder, according to a leading psychiatrist. Sufferers spend unhealthy amounts of time playing online games, viewing pornography or emailing.

They suffer these common symptoms:

1. They forget to eat and sleep;
2. they need more advanced technology or more hours online as they develop "resistance" to the pleasure given by their current system;
3. if they are deprived of their computer, they experience genuine withdrawal symptoms;
4. And in common with other addictions, the victims also begin to have more arguments, to suffer fatigue, to get lower marks in tests and to feel isolated from society.

Comics, are one of a thousand ways that could entertain us especially on those boring and lame afternoons, and the the web is one rich source too.
Way back while I was looking for comics that could make me LOL,  I came across a list of pretty well establised comics.

XKCD - XKCD is one of the most well-known web comics on the Internet. The web comic’s artist, Randall Munroe, describes it as a webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language.
One thing that’s easy to miss is that the last line of each comic is hidden in the picture’s caption. To see it, just hold your mouse over the picture and wait a second or two.

Garfield Minus Garfield - A unique adaptation of the long-running Garfield comic strip. The web comic’s creator describes the comic below:

Words that could mean a lot, words with much meaning in them, words that could touch one's life.

I MISS YOU - Perhaps more marriages could be salvaged and strengthened if couples simply and sincerely said to each other, "I miss you." This powerful affirmation tells partners they are wanted, needed, desired and loved.
